MOTORISTS using Sandton Drive are being urged to use alternative routes during peak traffic. This is because of a sinkhole caused by a burst water pipe.
The sinkhole is at the intersection of Lillian and Sandton Drive in Parkmore.
This has meant that one of the three west-bound lanes on Sandton Drive is closed, affecting traffic from Sandton towards William Nicol Drive, according to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
The City's water and sanitation utility, Johannesburg Water, has already repaired the pipe but work is still underway to fill in the hole.
According to the operations manager at JRA, Kobus Oberholzer, repairs are expected to be complete by the end of the weekend. He said that work had been delayed due to the ongoing rain.
This has affected traffic, according to Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, but "no accidents were reported".
He urged motorists to be patient.
