THE City council is in full swing, but there won't be an official opening until the local government elections, to be held on Wednesday, 1 March.
The traditionally colourful event usually takes place towards the end of January, when the City of Johannesburg takes stock and reflects on the past year, considers the present and looks at the year ahead.
At this event, the executive mayor delivers a state of the City speech.

However, according to City spokesperson Aletta Suping, council's official opening this year will coincide with the inauguration of the newly elected councillors, on Wednesday, 8 March.
Community members will get a chance to meet their newly elected councillors.
However, it will be business as usual until then. "Everything, including council meetings, will be held as usual until the local government elections," Suping said.
