WOZA New Year's Eve - when Africa will be dancing to one beat.
The City of Johannesburg will once again throw a huge New Year's Eve music concert from 6pm until 3am at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown. Entry to the concert is free.
The concert will be broadcast live on SABC2 and SABC Africa from 10pm till 1.30am to over 40 countries across Africa.
From kwaito giants to hip-hop innovators, maskandi champions to reggae greats and South Africa's home grown rock stars, the concert promises to bid a funky farewell to 2006 and get 2007 started on a jamming note.
The City's head of marketing, Elsabe Booyens, said, "We are confident that this concert is going to give the discerning Joburg residents exactly the type of New Year's entertainment they are looking for."
Kabelo will join the line-up of artists performing at the New Years Eve concert in Newtown
The star-studded artist line up features African troubadour Vusi Mahlasela, Afro-pop sizzler Kelly Khumalo, reggae rockers Tidal Wave, kwaito cats Kabelo and Black Jack, kings of maskandi Shwi Nomtekhala, rockers Cassette, the South African Police Jazz Band and the Vuvuzela Orchestra.
DJ Mdu, DJ Zan-D, Mr Anderson, DJ Zee and DJ Monde will be spinning the decks.
Kabelo said he was happy to be once again part of the artists' line up. "Performing at Newtown on New Year's has almost become a tradition for me. I was part of the 2005 New Year's line up and it was an amazing way to bring in the New Year," he said.
"This year I'll be back with Black Jack to give audiences the sounds I know they love to hear. And the fact that the show's being broadcast live to 40 African countries is phenomenal, so trust me when I say we're pulling out all the stops - watch out, Newtown," he promised.
Party lovers need not worry about their safety as the City is going all out to ensure the safety of party people.
"Of equal importance to the City is that we're providing a safe atmosphere for New Year's Eve. Absolutely no weapons will be allowed at the venue. The police will be conducting searches at entry points and all weapons found will be confiscated," Booyens said.
"Where alcohol is concerned, guests are not allowed to bring in alcohol. There will be a public bar provided on site for this purpose. Please do not bring your own alcohol, as it will also be confiscated. This is a firm non-negotiable.
"Our highly trained Emergency Management Services staff and the South African Police Service will be deployed on the night to deal with any situations that arise," Booyens concluded.
