EQUIPPED with all the mod cons to ensure a comfortable trip, two new Metrobus luxury coaches will give schools, football clubs, tourists and businesses a new outlet for mass transport.
The 44-seater buses arrived at the Metrobus Depot in July this year, at a cost of R1.9 million each, and did their first trip in August, when the City's executive mayor Amos Masondo and his entourage were transported on a City Tour for the Southern African Migration Project Workshop held in Braamfontein.
"These coaches can be used for corporate events, private hire and to transport players and football supporters during the 2010 World Cup," said business development officer at Metrobus, Mmoni Serumula.
Each coach boasts a coffeemaker, air conditioner, DVD/CD player, fridge, PA system with a microphone and luggage compartments.
"The luxury buses are very comfortable and have reclinable seats so passengers are able to relax while taking a ride," said Serumula.
Besides being used for corporate, private, sporting events and funerals, the buses can be booked by international and national tourists for long or short distances.
"The price is determined according to the distance," she said.
According to Serumula, Metrobus might add new buses at a later stage, depending on the performance of the operating buses.
At present, Metrobus has 457 buses doing daily routes around the city, which include 220 60-seaters, 150 double-deckers and 85 single-deckers.
