OVER R1,5-million was raised during the annual mayoral charity golf day, an event that saw the executive mayor of Johannesburg, Amos Masondo, leading city officials, executives and businessmen to tee off at the Killarney Golf Course for a worthy cause.
More than 50 companies took part in the golf day on Friday, 11 August.

This year's event, the third since its inception, benefitted Buckets of Love, a mayoral project set up to deal with the basic needs of individuals and families who have been directly affected by HIV/Aids.
The money was raised through the sale of four-balls, advertisements at the holes, and an auction at a gala dinner held at the Sandton Convention Centre later in the evening.
The participants were from banks, retailers, and business partners the City deals with on a day-to-day basis as well as individuals, members of the mayoral committee and senior City officials.

Masondo was the first to tee off at 7.45am on a sunny but chilly morning. Clearly enjoying himself, Masondo joked that come the end of the day he would be the next Tiger Woods.
Following Masondo's four-ball was the group led by City manager, Mavela Dlamini, who looked very comfortable on the driving range, and Moss Ngoasheng, chairman of easyGolf. Other team members, however, found the course unforgiving and seemed more concerned with shedding nearby trees of their leaves than sending balls on to the greens.
At the end of the day after a gruelling round of golf, the executive mayor was presented with a cheque of R1 518 720 that will be presented to Buckets of Love and Care. Last year an amount of R632 000 was raised.
Next year's event will be held as part of the bigger Joburg Open, a week-long golf tournament to be held under the auspices of the Sunshine Tour, to be held at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Club in Linksfield.
"The Joburg Open will be a professional tournament which we plan to hold in the third week of January next year. It is meant to showcase the City as an economic hub to the world and professional golfers, both men and women, from abroad will be participating," says Leon Plutsick, CEO of easyGolf, the company responsible for promoting the event.
