PRO Musica goes bohemian this spring, with its presentation of the famous Puccini opera, La Boheme.
Five performances are planned for the production at the Pro Musica Theatre in Roodepoort, running from 24 September to 2 October.
La Boheme is set in Montmartre in Paris. The plot revolves around four friends who live the "bohemian life" while sharing an attic studio in the Latin Quarter.
Rodolfo, the poet, is sung by tenor Stefan Louw; Christian Bester sings the role of Schaunard, the musician; Federico Freschi sings the role of Marcello, the painter; Mimi is sung by Ivayla Hinkova-Bobcheva; and Yollandi Nortjé sings the part of Musetta.
Weiss Doubell is conducting the orchestra.
La Boheme, directed by Hans van Heerden, is the latest of 65 opera productions that Pro Musica has staged over the past 24 years.
Spring has sprung - all the more reason for an entertaining evening out. There are plenty of restaurants near the theatre for a bite to eat before the show, and the theatre bar will be open at every production.
Performances are on Saturday, 24 September; Monday, 26 September; Wednesday, 28 September; and Friday, 30 September, at 8pm. Sunday's performance, on 2 October, is at 3pm, when the theatre lawns are an inviting place for a picnic lunch.
The theatre is behind the City's Region 5 offices, on Christiaan de Wet Road, Roodepoort.
Tickets are available at Computicket for R70, R150 and R210, with discounts for pensioners and students. Credit card bookings can be made through Graham at the Computicket in the Pro Musica Theatre on 011 672 2217, or online. Click here.
