THE Three Little Pigs raise the curtain at this spring's Storybook Theatre celebration at the People's Theatre.
From Monday, 5 September, an enchanting line up of fairytales, including Rumpelstiltskin and Little Red Riding Hood, join piglets Pumpkin, Parsley and Pippa to entertain the younger set.
Written and choreographed for children, the storybook celebration is fun, interactive and educational, perfect for audiences from toddlers to primary school children.
However, while this highly entertaining production is visual, the emphasis is on encouraging reading and developing a love of books.
Children are bound to love the music, magical sets and colourful costumes. Pop music from other fairytales, like Cinderella's So This is Love and If I Didn't Have You from Monsters Inc, will get them dancing.
The talented cast features well-known theatre names such as Francois Theron, who plays the ferocious Wolf. Ntsepa Pitjeng and Valeska Smith, who have performed in other People's Theatre productions, star as two of the little pigs; Johnny Klein is the third.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Seating is important for toddlers, explains publicist Jacqui Khourie. "It is preferable to introduce toddlers to the theatre by not sitting at the front, because the characters are life-sized, unlike characters they see on TV," she says.
Performances during government school terms are on weekdays at 9am and 11am. On Saturdays and public holidays they are at 10.30am and 2.30pm. During school holidays, performances are at 10.30am and 2.30pm from Monday to Saturday.
Tickets are R35 for Kids Club members and R60 for non-members. Accompanying adult members pay R50. Special school performances are available at R35 a learner, with one complimentary ticket for a teacher for every 20 children.
The play runs from 5 September to 8 October. Tickets are available at Computicket, or contact Vanessa at the People's Theatre on 011 403 1563.
