Zoo Lake hosts
charity golf day

AS PART of its ongoing fund-raising efforts, the Zoo Lake Users Committee is holding a charity golf day with Plus Fore Golf.

TAKE a day off work to play a round of golf, all in the name of charity.

The Zoo Lake Users Committee and Plus Fore Golf is hosting its annual charity golf event at the Eagle Canyon Country Club, near Honeydew, on Tuesday, 25 October.

"We are raising funds and creating awareness about Zoo Lake," said Lucy Taylor, the committee co-ordinator. Funds raised will go towards building an information centre at the lake.

She urged people to help, either through making donations or through playing.

The users committee is a non-profit organisation that raises funds to help City Parks with the upkeep of Zoo Lake. It focuses on creating a safe, pleasant, crime- and litter-free leisure area for everyone to enjoy.

"Zoo Lake proves to be a place where people representing all races, cultures and creeds can be together in harmony with nature," Taylor explained. "It is fitting with the history of tolerance that has been at the Zoo Lake since its inception way back in 1904."

The committee was formed six years ago; it is made up of members of the community, including policemen and sportsmen. It meets once a month and everyone is welcome to attend the meetings.

Recent committee projects are the refurbishment of the Coronation Fountain, costing R500 000, and acquiring a statue of two doves, called Peace, which was donated by Hazel Macmillian. It also worked with Johannesburg Water, to host the country's first Water Festival.

Plus Fore Golf is a golfing events company established in November 2003. "The company is made up of golf enthusiasts who have extensive expertise in the arrangement and marketing of golf-related events," explained Charnelle Munitich, the director and owner.

"[It is] part of our ongoing outreach programme to secure golf days for corporate companies and individuals in order to raise funds for numerous charities."

The golf day will culminate with surprise entertainment.

Another annual Zoo Lake Users Committee event, Carols by Candlelight, will be held on 30 November.
