THE opportunity of a lifetime is waiting for students who are thinking about going to university, and those who are already pursuing their studies.
The City of Johannesburg Municipality Bursary Scheme is open for applications from deserving full-time undergraduates for the 2006 academic year. People are urged to submit their applications before 21 October, 2005.
Already in its third year, the annual scheme was set up to assist underprivileged Joburgers by providing financial backing to help their studies.
Up to R10 000 is given to successful individuals, to go towards their tuition fees, prescribed books and course materials. A direct payment is made to the institution where the studies are being pursued. Bursary holders are expected to apply every year.
The scheme targets selected undergraduates studying built environment that involves architecture, construction management, quantity surveying and town and regional planning.
Other subjects it covers are logistics, engineering, commerce, nature conservation, property, geo informatics, political science and environmental health.
Candidates should preferably be registered at a South African further or higher education institution for full-time studies, and must be high achievers. Preference will be given to South African candidates.
The bursary cannot be used to pay the arrears on previous years of study, nor to pay off student loans from financial institutions.
Bursary application forms are available at a number of offices:
- Reception Area, A-Block Ground Floor, Metropolitan Centre, at 158 Loveday Street in Braamfontein;
- Libraries and People Centre offices
- From the Joburg website - click here.
Completed application forms must be submitted before 21 October, as late entries will not be accepted. Successful candidates will be informed by the end of November.
