Pay before you play

THE City has urged residents to ensure they pay their municipal accounts before they go away for the holidays to avoid having their services cut off.

THE City is reminding residents to pay their municipal accounts before they leave for their holidays. According to the City's revenue department many customers default on their payments over this period.

"We understand that many families feel the pinch in their pockets at this time of the year," says revenue spokesperson Mandy Jean Woods. "But we want to remind our customers that they are required to settle their municipal debts.

"Our credit control procedures continue throughout the holiday season, and we would hate to see a situation where any of our customers find themselves without access to basic services like water and power simply because they missed a payment."

The City’s pay-points will also be closed for three Saturdays during December: 17 December, 24 December and 31 December. "We don’t anticipate many people coming in to the pay-points on these days," says the revenue department's spokesperson Mandy Jean Woods.

However, the pay-points will be open for business as usual for the rest of December and January, Woods says. Municipal pay-points are open from 7.30am to 3.30pm on weekdays and from 9am to 11am on Saturdays. Besides using the municipal offices, there are other ways of paying municipal accounts.

Easy Pay outlets offer a quick payment option. They are available in many shops that customers visit on a regular basis, like Pick 'n Pay, Woolworths and Shoprite-Checkers.

Other options are electronic payments, like debit orders, direct deposits at major banks, through the ATMs, internet banking sites and cellphone banking. But there are more ways to pay your accounts.

Customers can pay at any South African post office or any Council pay-point. All Council pay-points will be open during normal trading hours during the holiday season.

If you have a problem with making your monthly payments, talk to any staff member to agree on a suitable financial arrangement.

In addition, customers who did not receive their monthly municipal statements this month must either pay the same amount as the previous month or phone the electronic payment query centre 011 375 5555 to inquire about their accounts.

Alternatively, one can register to receive monthly accounts by email on the e-services page of the City's website.
