winter season
A SEASON of musicals, concerts, opera and comedy is on the diary this winter, all from the team at Pro Musica Productions.

TO KEEP music lovers entertained this winter the Pro Musica Theatre has a full programme lined up, with performances that include musicals, concerts, comic operas and a comedy by the Roodepoort Little Theatre.
Pro Musica Theatre, home to Pro Musica Productions, has produced more than 500 symphonic performances and almost 400 operatic performances in the past 24 years, including drama, dance, ballet, community theatre and school productions.
This winter, the audience can look forward to the Pro Musica Orchestra performing Mozart's clarinet concerto and Schubert's unfinished symphony on Sunday, 29 May at 3.30pm. Tickets are available at the theatre and at Computicket for R40, R70 and R100.

The Pro Musica Orchestra in action
Hoërskool Florida pupils will perform a musical review from Tuesday, 24 May to Saturday, 28 May, written by David Kramer and Taliep Petersen. The musical is a love story set in the 1960s against the background of the forced removals in District Six, Cape Town.
From Tuesday to Thursday the show will start at 6.30pm, while the Friday shows will start at 3pm and 6.30pm and the Saturday shows at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets are available at Hoërskool Florida at R20 to R40 or contact Hoërskool Florida on 011 672 5345.
June performances start on Thursday, 2 June with Neil Simon's bittersweet comedy The Gingerbread Lady performed by the Roodepoort Little Theatre. The cast includes Marian Hoöman, Nicki Withers, Patric Baard, Bridgette Koch and Quintin de Wet. It is directed by the acclaimed Andy Bowman.
Performances will be on Thursday and Friday, 3 June at 7.30pm. On Saturday, 4 June shows will be at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets are available at Computicket at R45 for evening shows and R30 for matinees.
On Sunday, 5 June, the Association of International Dance Teachers will present an intermediate bursary and a solo performers examination. For more information contact Beth on 011 622 3566 from 8am to 1pm.
Jean Dubé, the brilliant French pianist, is scheduled to perform in the Pro Musica Theatre on Sunday, 12 June at 3.30pm; the programme for the show has not yet been confirmed.
Also on the calendar from Pro Musica Productions is a comic opera in four acts by Mozart called Le Nozze di Figaro (or The Marriage of Figaro), which will be performed by Hanli Stapela, Violina Anguelov, Denver Smith, Thami Zungu and Linelle Wimbles, supported by the Sasol Pro Musica Orchestra and the Pro Musica Opera Chorus under the baton of Weiss Doubell. Dawie Couzyn is the director and Loran Robertson is the designer.
Shows on Sundays - 26 June, 3 and 10 July - will start at 3pm; on Wednesdays - 29 June, 6 July - and on Friday, 1 July will be at 8pm. Tickets are available at Computicket from R70 to R210, and there is a discount for pensioners, pupils and students.
From Saturday, 23 July to Sunday, 24 July, the National School of Dance Teachers Association will present the National Junior and Senior Championships candidates for modern and ballet dancing. Times have not been confirmed; for more information contact the association on 011 463 6851.
