Zoo launches win
a car competition

TO RAISE much-needed cash, the Johannesburg Zoo - and a number of partners - has launched the Big Five Johannesburg Zoo Fund Raising Project, with a new car up for grabs.

COME explore - the Johannesburg Zoo has put out the call to all city slickers to support its latest fundraising project. Set to run for the next two months, the project was launched on Thursday, 30 June.

The Big Five Johannesburg Zoo Fund Raising Project is a joint initiative by the zoo, Wendy Machanik Properties, Ford Fury, Nando's, 702 Talk Radio and 94.7 Highveld Stereo. It is aimed at raising much-needed funds to upgrade the zoo's facilities and to improve the welfare of all its animals.

Running as an SMS competition, a brand-new car from Fury Motor Group is up for grabs, along with a number of other prizes from various sponsors.

Zoo event manager Elna Latchman said that each week between 1 July and early September, Joburg Zoo would announce the name of one lucky entrant who would be entered into the final stages of the competition. Out of these people, one entrant would win the car.

"We are inviting all members of the public to support this exciting initiative, because it will benefit the wellbeing of our lovely animals."

Each SMS costs R5, with all the proceeds going to the Joburg Zoo. The final draw for the car will be held at the zoo on Saturday, 3 September, which is perfectly planned to coincide with the wedding ceremony of Lisa and Makoko, the popular gorilla couple.

"The competition is also aimed at celebrating the upcoming wedding and we are very excited by the developments surrounding the couple," Latchman said.

She joked that this was a very special wedding that would be recorded in the history books, because instead of guests bringing presents for the newly weds, they would give away a car to a lucky guest.
