A SEVEN-man Fifa delegation arrived in Johannesburg today to inspect potential venues for the 2010 Soccer World Cup matches.
"The delegation arrived early this morning and they will inspect Soccer City, Ellis Park Stadium and all the other potential training venues - Rand Stadium, Orlando Stadium and Dobsonville Stadium this afternoon," said Erika Naude, the City's deputy director for special projects in the department of development planning, transportation and environment.
"Stadiums in the city need to be assessed to see if they comply with Fifa standards."
The delegation from the Federation International Football Association will also visit venues in Tshwane, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, the Nelson Mandela Metropol, Durban and Cape Town.
According to media reports, the group will inspect 10 out of the 13 venues identified in the Bid Book, the document put forward in support of South Africa's bid to host the international event.
It is expected to spend about an hour-and-a-half at each venue.
A final decision on venues will only be made known after the conclusion of the 2006 Soccer World Cup in Germany. No daily statements will be made on the group's findings.
