YOUNGSTERS with stars in their eyes and a desire to be on stage or on the radio now have the chance to audition for a new drama school opening in Orlando East, Soweto, this January.

Well-known playwright and director Paul Rapetsoa is planning to open a drama school at the Donaldson Orlando Community Centre in Orlando East in an effort to develop the talents of Sowetans.

The Rapetsoa Institute of Arts (Prida) is offering a nine-month course in performing arts and radio presenting. Classes are set to start on 18 January.

Auditions for a place in the school will be held at the Donaldson Orlando Community Centre on 17 January from 10am until 5pm, with the top three performers receiving scholarships to Prida.

"The top achiever will get a scholarship for nine months and the two runners up will get scholarships for the first three months of their study," says Rapetsoa.

The popular radio presenter says: "All my life I have worked with people and I have realised that there is enormous talent but it is not being used - particularly in Johannesburg."

Rapetsoa wants to change this.

"I've been a radio presenter for 20 years and I can proudly say that 85 percent of Thobela FM's DJs are my products. I want to do the same in Soweto. I want to make people do what they never thought they could do."

Prida will also offer training to schoolchildren in the afternoons, between 2pm and 5pm, and for younger children - between six and 14 years old - there will be workshops on Sundays from 2pm to 4.30pm.

For more information contact Paul Rapetsoa on 082 637 8419.
