JOHANNESBURG WATER will upgrade ten metres of the Houghton water pipeline this month, following repeated bursts along a section of the pipe in Central Avenue, Houghton Estates, which has disrupted water supplies over recent weeks.
The upgrade will ensure more reliable water supplies to suburbs as far north as Hurlingham, and as far east as Highlands North.
Construction will begin on 25 January 2005 at 9.00am and is scheduled to be completed by 4.00pm the same day. To ensure that residents still have access to emergency water supplies, the company will station a water tanker opposite the Rosebank Hotel.
Residents living in the following areas will be affected by the interruption:
- Houghton Estate
- Craighall
- Hurlingham
- Parktown North
- Rosebank
- Illovo
- Highlands North
- Oaklands
Residents are urged to try and store enough water to compensate for the interruption to the normal supply. Residents who want more information should contact the 24 hour Water Helpline on 011 688 1500.
