JOHANNESBURG'S community-based organisations are being encouraged to take part in drawing up the City's new five-year Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
The City has asked interested organisations to register to be participants in the consultation meetings by 2 September 2005.
The IDP is used to measure the achievements, challenges, medium-term financial planning and future developments of the City.
Registered organisations will form part of the City's database and will receive details of meetings in their area.
According to Council Speaker Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, community-based organisations have an important role to play in helping to create a favourable environment and the proper platform for discussion with the City.
She said consultation meetings gave people an opportunity to "have their say" about development in their areas. This could be building community facilities or conservation needs, which the City budgets for. Feedback was also given on the status of projects.
"In compiling its new five-year IDP, Joburg wants to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in shaping service delivery priorities and the development of the city," Mayathula-Khoza said.
Active organisations are advised to post their details, including the name of their organisation, its location, membership and affiliation, and full contact details, to Pat Nhlapo, Office of the Speaker, PO Box 1049 Johannesburg 2000, or to fax the information to 011 403 1615.
