THOSE with an appreciation for fine acting - more particularly, the Bard's works - are invited to attend a Shakespeare workshop on 6 November at the Bezst Theatre in the Market Theatre complex.
Held by the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (Pansa), the workshop will feature Jennifer Steyn, one of two South Africans selected to take up a month-long residency at the Globe Theatre in the UK.
The residency, at the Globe Theatre in London, saw two South African actors join 10 fellow artists from around the world taking part in the International Artistic Residence. The Globe Theatre is a reconstruction of the theatre in which Shakespeare's plays were originally staged.
Steyn and Peter Butler were chosen by Pansa to be the first South Africans to take up the annual residency in an exchange that will see UK educators being sent to South Africa to encourage interest Shakespeare's works.
While in London Steyn and Butler received coaching in skills such as voice, movement and words by Globe specialists.
Pansa national coordinator, Tammy Ballantyne, says: "We thought it would be best if Jenny could share her experiences with other actors who could not make it."
The workshop will be held from 10am till 1pm at the Bezst Theatre and Steyn will discuss some of the techniques and methods that were practised at the Globe.
"There has been a renewed interest in actors wanting to wanting to do Shakespearean text," adds Ballantyne.
In a 2pm session, Steyn will talk more about her experiences during her time in London in an informal discussion.
Organisers hope around 20 actors will attend the workshop, with as many visitors as possible attending the afternoon discussion session.
Both the workshop and the informal discussion are free, but people wanting to attend are urged to book for the workshop.
To book a place, contact Tammy Ballantyne at Pansa on 011 880 5486 by 4 November.
