JOHANNESBURG'S Corporate Geographical Information Systems department will celebrate International GIS Day with an exhibition of city property and maps at the Metropolitan Centre in Braamfontein.
The exhibition, showcasing the work of the department - including depictions of the City's geographical features - will take place on Wednesday, 17 November, on the eight floor, A Block from 9am to 3pm.
The exhibition will offer members of the public involved in management, marketing, monitoring or planning of property, environmental, safety and security or engineering issues various products and services such as standard and customised maps, digital data, aerial photography, property information, a fax service and an internet map site.
Geographic information systems technology is a computer-based mapping tool that turns information about a location - such as streets, buildings, water features and terrain - into visual layers.
Participants will be able to table geographic queries, create maps and do modelling, identify spatial patterns and trends and perform multi-disciplinary planning during the exhibition.
