BECAUSE it requires a much bigger cast than the South African Ballet Theatre's corps de ballet, the ballet company is offering trained members of the public a chance to be in Swan Lake, a timeless production of love, betrayal and forgiveness.
The first production to be staged on the newly named Nelson Mandela stage at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre in 2001, the SABT's Swan Lake will make a welcome return at the theatre from 10 September to 26 September.
The production will be staged by internationally celebrated South African ballet personalities Denise Schultze and Louis Godfrey, and Kenneth Greve, principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet, will perform as guest artist.
Auditions for additional dancers to perform as guests will be open to females who have passed their intermediate or higher exams in any of the recognised ballet disciplines. Candidates will be required to wear a leotard and must be able to participate in rehearsals and performances in Johannesburg.
Auditions, which will consist of a ballet class and pointe work, take place on Saturday, 15 May, from 10 am to 11.30am at the SABT studios at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, Loveday Street, Braamfontein.
