Public hearing
on awards policy

March 23, 2004

JOHANNESBURG residents are invited to make verbal or written submissions on the draft policy that deals with honouring people with various awards including the Freedom of the City.

A public hearing will be held on Monday 19 April to consider input on the draft policy on freedom, awards and entry to the City of Johannesburg.

The policy aims to:

  • Establish the Freedom of the City and other awards to recognise outstanding achievements by individuals, organisations, groups and institutions in the city; and
  • Grant the Freedom of the City to military regiments and units of the South African National Defence Force

Residents are invited to read the draft policy and submit comments.

For submissions and enquiries contact Loshini Govender on 011 407 7484 or loshinig@joburg.org.za or fax 011 403 1615

The public hearing will be held on Monday 19 April from 09h30 in the Council chamber at the Metro civic centre on 158 Loveday Street in Braamfontein.
