THE Dance Factory in Newtown will be holding auditions early January for youngsters between the ages of six and 17 to attend classes in contemporary dance and ballet in 2004.
The auditions will be held at the Dance Factory on Friday 9 January from 3pm to 5.30pm. To book a place at the audition contact 011 833 1347.
The Dance Training Programme for Children and Teenagers, sponsored by the Royal Netherlands Embassy, will be held at the Dance Factory premises weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings from 18 January. Professional teachers and choreographers who have a strong connection to the current dance scene, both local and international, run the different classes.
The Dance Factory was set up to foster a dance culture in Joburg through training dancers and developing an audience. It runs a dance centre in the Newtown precinct, holding regular classes, workshops and performances, particularly for communities that have been culturally, educationally and economically disadvantaged.
Throughout the year the Dance Factory offers students an opportunity to participate in workshops by guest artists from around the world.
Several scholarships are still available for 2004. While no previous training is needed for applicants between the ages of seven and 12, some training will be an advantage for those between 13 and 17.
For more information call the Dance Factory on 011 833 1347.
