SANDTON'S premier hotel, the InterContinental Sandton Sun and Towers, has been voted the best hotel in the city by Global Finance, a top international business magazine.
"We are extremely honoured to be voted the best hotel in Johannesburg," says Hans Heijligers, the director of operations.
About 15 000 magazine readers around the world filled in a survey ranking various hotels.
This is the second year running the hotel has won international recognition.
Last year it received a Travel and Leisure World best hotel award for excellence for business travellers.
According to Global Finance, the InterContinental Sandton Sun and Towers is ranked in the top 62 hotels in business centres around the world.
"Continuous evolvement and a critical eye on customer service ensures that we are able to hold our own on the world stage," says Heijligers.
"Last year we invested an enormous amount in the refurbishment of the hotel, which demonstrates that we have the insight and the ability to keep up with the world trends," he says.
Lindiwe Sangeni-Siddo, the general manager, places much emphasis on the calibre of staff and management. She believes "people come back for people".
Her team is passionate about excellence and "ardent about delivering a professional yet personal service to all guests".
The hotel - in the middle of Sandton, South Africa's corporate headquarters - has just refurbished its Atrium restaurant and offers an exquisite African menu. Dishes include: rooibos seared Mozambican prawn stack; rack of Karoo spring lamb; honey-glazed roast butternut; and oxtail off the bone.
A speedy lunch service also caters for businesspeople on the run: the Atrium offers "lunch on the go" - a hearty buffet that can be enjoyed with a glass of wine in less than 45 minutes.
