FOR those curious how ballet companies get precision productions together, the South African Ballet Theatre (SABT) is holding an Open Day, while the Ballet Theatre Afrikan is looking for aspiring dancers to audition for their upcoming season.
SABT Open Day
The SABT Open Day will be held on 28 August from 10am to 2pm at their studios in the Johannesburg Civic Theatre precinct on Loveday Street, Braamfontein.
Ballet fans are invited to see the SABT at work and watch their ballet class and rehearsals of the forthcoming production of "Swan Lake", which will be staged in September.
Visitors will get the chance to meet and chat with the dancers, and Louis Godfrey and Denise Schultz, producers of "Swan Lake" who previously produced "The Sleeping Beauty" and "Romeo and Juliet" for the SABT, will also be there.
Tickets for the SABT Open Day will cost R30 and are available through Edgar Moagi on 011 877 6898 or by e-mail at admin@saballettheatre.co.za. Tea and cake will be served.
Auditions at BTA
Ballet Theatre Afrikan has invited aspiring dancers to audition for their new season, which runs from October.
Male and female dancers from around South Africa who are of a soloist standard and trained in ballet style but who have the ability to dance in the contemporary idiom will have an opportunity to audition for a two-month contract.
Rehearsals for the October season begin mid-August and auditions will be held until the end of August.
For more information and dates and times of auditions, contact Paula Kelly at the BTA offices on 011 880 3099 or 011 880 3587, or e-mail ballettheatreafrikan@artslink.co.za.
