A PARK and ride system has been put into place to make it easier for runners to take part in the City-to-City Heritage Marathon between Centurion and Johannesburg on 7 September.
Buses have been organised to take participants from various car parks to the start of the race in Centurion, and return runners and walkers back to their transport at the end of the race in Johannesburg.
Bus services company, City to City, has allocated 15 coaches to shuttle the almost 2 000 runners from car parks to the start of the 50km run at the Centurion Rugby Stadium, Pretoria. Coaches will also take participants to the start of the 20km walk at Gallagher Estate, Midrand.
At the end of the event, the service will also pick up runners from the finish at the Wanderers Cricket Stadium, Illovo, and return them to their cars.
A runner can park at the Wanderers Stadium and catch a ride to the starting line in Centurion, while a walker can park in Midrand and take a bus back from the Wanderers after the marathon.
Tickets will be available on registration, at R25 for runners and R20 for walkers. The buses will be exclusively for the participants, not for supporters and spectators.
The first buses will leave the Wanderers Stadium for Centurion and Midrand at 4am to be at the different starting lines by 6am.
The City-to-City Heritage Marathon is organised by the City of Johannesburg, the City of Tshwane, Gauteng Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, New Africa Investments Limited, Athletics South Africa and Jacaranda 92.4 FM.
