DIMINUTIVE US R&B sensation Sisqo is set to rock Johannesburg's young audiences as he performs at the Arts Alive concert at the Dome in Northgate on 27 September.
Famous for his swift dance routines and his crooning vocal abilities, the former Dru Hill lead singer is a four-times Grammy Award nominee and has won six Billboard awards and an MTV video award both with his former crew, Dru Hill, and for his album Return of Dragon.
In South Africa his unique sense of dress and dance has spawned a new generation of Sisqo-wannabes, all seeking to mimic the "ladies man". Speedy, formerly of kwaito outfit Bongo Maffin, admitted as much. He now gets the chance to share the stage with his idol at the Saturday concert.
Other local acts to join Sisqo on stage as he performs in the country for the second time include the 2002 runners-up in the Coca Cola Popstars talent search, Afro Z, and the group Boyz Next Door.
As though countering criticism that he only made good music when he was with Dru Hill, Sisqo says in his online biography: "One of the most important things I did was to create my own sound, because I didn't want people to think I am a one-hit wonder, so my music will be popular for a very long time."
Produced by Blackstreet's legendary sound engineer Teddy Riley, Sisqo is set to churn out popular tunes including Dance With Me and the Thong Song, a hit that endeared him to many young fans.
The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are available at Computicket from R109 to R250.
