A MAJOR project to upgrade water pipes in parts of Eldorado Park is set to begin next month at a cost of R956 000.
As part of the project, Johannesburg Water, the City's water and sanitation service provider, has announced the utility "is in the process of replacing some of the pipelines as a matter of urgency" in Union Road and Delaware Street, Eldorado Park. This was in response to complaints from consumers of low water pressure.
JW wanted to inform residents in Union Road that the project would begin next month. "Construction work is expected to commerce at the end of October, after the designs and technical investigations are completed," said Jameel Chand, from JW's communications and marketing department.
The project was necessary "to address the pressure problems", JW said. "Consumers in the vicinity of Delaware Street have complained about inadequate water pressure in the area."
Initial investigations showed the pressure problem was linked to high consumption patterns, JW said. "Consumers sometimes had to do without water," Chand said.
The utility said that the project would address these problems and would also save on maintenance costs.
For more information, residents can call JW's 24-hour help line on 011 688 1500.
