SOUTH AFRICA'S top kwaito artists will be performing at an all-day bash in Lonehill, northern Johannesburg, this Sunday celebrating Gauteng radio station Y-FM's sixth birthday.
SA Music Award winner Mzekezeke and top hip-hop outfit Skwatta Kamp will top the bill at the party, with Y-FM DJs Lee Kasumba and Unathi Nkayi hosting the event on Sunday 26 October at Keegan's Restaurant in Lonehill.
Keeping it local, the Y-FM rave will showcase 19 top local bands over a 12-hour session, from 10am to 10pm. "With the aim of promoting our local talent, we will not be bringing any international acts in to perform at our birthday party," says Y-FM station manager, Greg "the musical maestro" Maloka.
Performers and DJs volunteered their services "as a gesture of friendship and commitment to Y-FM", says Maloka, adding that after hearing that no corporate sponsors had come to the party "artists like Zola have offered to contribute towards some of the costs".
Other artists to perform include Kabelo, Mafikizolo, KB, Hhashi Elimhlophe, Fortune and Ramesh, H20, Mahoota, Spikiri, Brown Dash, Zola, Unathi, Mapaputsi, Robbie Malinga, Lira, Malaika, Chippa, Mzambiya, Twistyle, Thebe and TK.
After 10pm the party will head off to a venue to be announced at the party to continue the jol. DJs for the after party are DJ Fresh, Vinny Da Vinci, Rudeboy Paul, Waxzy, DJ Monde, Oskido, the Naked DJ, Nutty Nys and Maloka.
Tickets, at R120 a head, are only available from the Y Shoppe at the Zone in Rosebank and Keegan's Restaurant is on Main Road, Lonehill.
