AN age restriction will be firmly enforced at the music happening of the weekend at Kilimanjaro in Melrose Arch - radio station Y-fm is hosting its first ever 29ers evening on Friday night.
Catering for the 27s to 35s, the music for 29ers night is strictly deep house, with DJ Yannick of Needs, a German production company, spinning the discs in his unique style.
No under 23s will be allowed entrance to the party, which is for "young professionals who like to go out to various venues but seek places and people they can relate to", says Y-fm station manager Greg Maloka, who is himself 29.
"This event will cater for a specific target market that enjoys reminiscing back to when Y started, six years ago," says Maloka. "It will be an experience that is truly unique to and for them."
Needs, a Frankfurt-based production team formed in 1999, includes brothers Lars and Marek Bartkuhn and, of course, Yannick Elverfeld. They have a trademark deep house sound, influenced by classic house grooves, jazz, funk and soulful techno.
DJ Yannick will be playing four-hours of soulful house alongside Y-fm's own DJ Monde, "The Musical Maestro" Maloka, and DJ Fresh. The three will perform live with a band.
Other local DJs performing at the gig will include Vinny da Vinci, Iggy Smallz and Mbuso.
The events starts at 8pm and tickets, priced at R120, are available from the Y Shoppe at The Zone in Rosebank or at the door. Remember, no under 23s are allowed and dress to impress.
