JOHANNESBURG WATER has streamlined its human resources department and implemented an IT solution to manage day-to-day issues such as absenteeism, leave and wages.
This has been done to "ensure that the bolts and nuts" that drive Johannesburg Water, the City's water and sanitation utility, are in place and the company can focus on customer service, said MD Greg Segoneco.
In a statement Johannesburg Water announced that it had joined forces with human resources experts, Swicon South Africa (Pty) Ltd, to improve the human resources structures within the utility to make them more efficient.
The joint project, in the form of a three-year contract, involved analysing and developing future business processes and implementing such processes.
The first phase of the process, implemented over the past year, has now been successfully completed, Johannesburg Water announced. The partnership with Swicon had "allowed Johannesburg Water to focus more effectively on their core business, further develop their staff and begin the drive to make the human resources department a more strategic service provider within the organisation", a statement said.
The next phase of development within the human resources department included training staff in various areas such as events management, personnel cost planning and compensation management, said Segoneco.
"Through the different interventions we have planned with Swicon we are confident in developing Johannesburg Water as an employer of choice where people want to work, said Segoneco.
