Region 8
The Johannesburg Central Region, also known as the Inner City, is where the original mining camps of the City of Gold were established towards the end of the 19th century. Over time, the city spread out; its central business district became dense with high-rise office and residential buildings and an excellent infrastructure developed. Some of the earliest of the extended residential, business and industrial areas that grew up around the centre of Johannesburg also form part of Region 8.

Region 8 exhibition
at Dara Centre

AN exhibition on services provided by the city of Johannesburg's region 8 are being showcased in Kensington at the Dara Centre foyer from Tuesday, 27 to Thursday, 29 May from 9am to 2pm.

"The exhibition aims to build a link between the community and council and to ensure that the process of community consultation and participation in council activities and projects is adhered to as stipulated by the Municipal Structures Act," says exhibition coordinator, Gideon Cruywagen.

The exhibition is intended to help the public query the following services:

  • Electricity - power failures, meter reading and street lights;
  • Water - water supply and waste water;
  • Roads- potholes, storm water lids, traffic lights, and street names;
  • Environmental - park maintenance and refuse collection;
  • Trade licence application - illegal trades;
  • Planning - zoning of properties and land use.

In addition, health services officials will be available to answer people's queries pertaining to family planning, diabetes and other related questions as well as conducting blood pressure tests.

Also taking part in the exhibitions will be library and information systems and sport and recreation departments.
