YOUNG leaders from eight informal settlements in the north west of Johannesburg will take part in planning for the future at a Youth Development Summit this Friday.
Representatives from the Region 5 settlements of Sol Plaatje, Mathole, Leratong, Witpoortjie, Zandspruit, Itsoseng, Davidsonville and Princess have been invited to the Summit at the Roodepoort Hall on 27 June.
The delegates will discuss vital issues such as access to education and skills development, including technical, entrepreneurial and business and personal leadership skills. "The purpose of the summit is to encourage young people to make use of resources that improve their quality of life," the organisers said in a statement.
Young leaders will also get an opportunity to meet representatives from non-government organisations; youth service providers; and department of health, education and labour officials. The Summit is being coordinated by the Department of Social Services.
Delegates will also be informed about available developmental resources, such as computer literacy courses.
The agenda was established during pre-summit workshops held by the Department of Labour at Sol Plaatje, Witpoortjie and Zandspruit settlements in April.
