Johannesburg Zoo

The zoo will be holding a festival of lights over the holiday season, with the Hospice Tree of Lights lit up every weekend. Other activities have also been planned for visitors.
Entrance to the Johannesburg Zoo, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, is R10 per person. If you decide to buy a globe for the zoo's tree of light the entrance will be R20 for adults and R12 for children. Parking will cost a flat rate of R5 for the evening.

Remembering the reason for all the festivities, the library will be hosting Christmas carols today from 10am.

Ullmann Park Recreation Centre

The daily holiday programme begins at 9am and runs until 4pm.
Children can take part in either the morning, afternoon or full day sessions.
Morning sessions are from 9am to 12.30pm and cost R30 per session.
Lunch is optional and costs R12.
Afternoon sessions, from 1.30pm to 4pm, cost R18 per session and are more informal with games in the park and indoor activities.
Full supervision is available from 7.30am to 5.30pm.
The holiday programme fee is R440 for members. An annual membership fee of R40 is payable by non-members and for a once off session an extra fee of R10 is charged to non-members.
All outings must be booked in advance and older children are welcome.

Every Saturday and Sunday morning during the festive season children can have their photographs taken with Father Christmas, while in the Northgate Shopping Mall foyer visitors can watch the performances of a Zulu dance troupe.
During this time gifts will also be handed out to the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

The mall has planned a Christmas festival and children are invited to join in the parade every day between 1pm and 2pm.
There are also free carousel rides for very young visitors at the Palm Court near Entrance 6.
11 December to 23 December
Children can take part in the Just Fun Toys Christmas Workshop from 10am to 12.30pm at the Palm Court near Entrance 6.
19 December
Children meet Tipp between 10.30am and 11.30am at the Palm Court.
20 December
Spiderman will be on hand to meet visitors between 11am to noon and the Miss Barbie contest will take place from noon to 1pm.
21 December
Tipp will again make an appearance at the Palm Court from 10.30am to 11.30am.
23 December
The prize-giving ceremony for the Miss Barbie competition will be held from 11am to noon. Spiderman and Tipp will make back-to-back appearances today, with Spiderman visiting from 1pm to 2pm and Tipp arriving at 2pm.
24 December
There will be a Just Fun Toys Christmas Workshop for the whole day, again it is at the Palm Court near Entrance 6.

Daily activities for the children range from colouring-in competitions to face painting, from games like chess and scrabble to puzzles. Children can take part in the fun in front of the Ster-Kinekor cinemas between 9am and 4pm. Volunteers are on hand to supervise the children.

Sandton City has lined up musical celebration to enhance the feeling of goodwill over the festive season. All the performances will be under the giant Christmas tree in the Fountain Court, where you can also travel through Santa's Village and have your photograph taken with Father Christmas. There will also be magic shows and carols every Friday and on Wednesday 24 December.
8 December to 24 December
There will be free daily concerts showcasing various musicians from the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Visitors can be entranced by the different sounds of a trio, quartet or quintet.
Young violinists from the Violin Academy will also be performing throughout the holidays.
20 December
The Soweto String Quartet will enchant all visitors by their exquisite playing, at 1pm.
Favourite Christmas tunes will spread goodwill to all when the Salvation Army performs once again, at 3pm.
