WHETHER you're a professional bargain hunter or have a discerning taste for designer labels Gauteng, with more than 300 shopping centres and thousands of retailers, caters for all tastes.
The Gauteng Tourism Authority has recognised shopping as one of the key experiences in Gauteng, especially in Johannesburg, and to highlight this has initiated a campaign called the Gauteng Shopping Experience from 12 December to 21 December.
The tourism authority is giving out discount coupons that are redeemable at participating stores. Original coupons are available from the Gauteng Tourism Authority in the Rosebank Mall, at the Johannesburg Airport, at Sandton City's kiosk and the Rosebank Mall kiosk. Coupons can also be downloaded from the Gauteng Tourism Authority website.
Although the Gauteng Shopping Experience officially runs from 12 December to 21 December, most discounts and coupons are valid until early next year.
Discount coupons are redeemable from participating restaurants, factory shops, designer stores, hairdressers, luggage stores, hotels and even tour guides across the province.
"The project is initiated by the GTA to promote Gauteng as a shopping destination and for people from outside and domestically to utilise the facilities that Gauteng has to offer," said Marnie Heim-Stafford, project facilitator.
Southern African Development Community country residents are welcome to come and purchase goods in South Africa for resale in their own countries
"Everyone has been catered for. Whether you want to shop at Sandton City or the bargain bins in Johannesburg, there is something for everyone," Heim-Stafford added.
International visitors are reminded to keep their invoices to claim VAT at the Johannesburg Airport or at Sandton City.
The Gauteng Tourism Authority is based at Shop 401, Upper Level, Rosebank Mall and can be contacted on 011 327 2000.
