City Power amnesty

April 17, 2003

By Mandisi Majavu

CITY POWER has announced plans to pardon all the offenders who have until now either "by-passed their electricity meters" or been illegally connected.

However, offenders must note that, says City Power, this is an amnesty against prosecution only and that all losses will be recovered from customers.

The deadline for offenders to come forward is 30 April. After that date, the company will lay criminal charges against all customers who are found to be engaging in criminal activities.

Also, the transgressors have been given options: either to write to City Power or telephone the utility to make individual arrangements to correct any "anomalies". However, after 30 April, doors will be closed to all those who want to change their ways and seek to repent.

Customers can contact City Power directly on (011) 375 5555 or if you want to tip-off the company anonymously: 0800 003251 or email citypower@tip-offs.com
